Description

Vinyl LP pressing of the 2007 debut album by Milenasong, the least electronic sounding release on the Monika label, but there is something fairly dark about Seven Sisters that reminds of the early releases on the 4AD label. Milenasong´s double tracked vocals contrast the otherwise warm instrumentals. The overall folky feel of the album is bolstered by the appearance of some '80s influenced tracks that help balance the album in Milenasong's favor. 12 songs including 'Sara', 'Casey on Fire' and more. Monika.

Milenasong's SEVEN SISTERS starts off with country-western heartbreak: the soft guitar and banjo plucks of "Sara," augmented by the yawning steel guitar. But the thrum and creeping darkness of "Casey On Fire" quickly squashes the thought that this is all twee folk pop, though "Thirty" immediately contradicts me. But it's certainly not twee; it has the uneasiness of Appalachian murder songs, and the feedback and buzz of "Nightlost Trains" augment this feel. But Milenasong can also get perky too: "Lily Wyatt" goes upbeat. But moodiness is her best friend: "Something Else" sounds like a stroll through a house haunted by the ghost of a lovelorn mother (echoing the later "Standby"), and the gentle strum of "Love Feel You Do" benefits from the harmonic duet on the vocals. But when it's just her and gramaphone-distorted strings, as on "Figs Tree," the effect can be just as powerful. A strange, intriguing album.
