I was pretty excited when the new 7N showed up in my mailbox with the new Collective Soul the other day, but I was a little freaked when, underneath the Collective Soul, I saw the cover for the Pictou Sessions... Now I knew that that album wasn't going to have a long press run, but I was kind of hoping for some new artwork... although, the inside booklet is a thousand times better than that of Pictou. The new version of Big Dog on this album is one of the best I've heard. Kirk's voice is a little different, but I really grew to like it. I was disappointed that "Rare Auld Time" didn't make it on this album, as it was my favourite from Pictou. However, the inclusion of "For James" all but made up for it. One of my favourite songs from Rain & Thunder, I've never heard it live, so this was a fantastic treat indeed. Overall, this album turned out even better than Pictou, (which I also liked a LOT) despite the loss of that one particular song. For both new fans and old, this self-titled album should be added to any collection.
