Inspiration comes with experience. Our experience in China was the true inspiration for the 7 original studio songs on Hot Seven Seven. Dancing on the Water tells of our trip from Seattle to Beijing, the excitement and the transition to a new culture. Sing Jing was written after a long day with a tour guide who would not let us go back to our hotel. We came to China to visit an organization for migrant children and Cold Wind blew on the Great Wall and in the poverty-stricken areas of Beijing where the migrants lived with little resources and poor education. Wangfujing describes the downtown street with outdoor vendors and wonderful food at night when the lights of the city came alive. The Silk Market was one of four market in Beijing where you could get lost in the maze of merchandise, all for cheap cheap cheap. Our son and his wife inspired Temple of Heaven with their long distance love story ending with marriage then living and teaching in China. Lastly, Beijing Dream tells of the trip home, when travels are coming to a close and you wonder if you really experienced the majesty and beauty of China or was it a dream? The second set of seven songs is a tribute to the great jazz artists that inspire our work on a daily basis. From Paul Desmond to Herbie Hancock and Ray Charles this live recording gives a "Rachichi" twist to standards and favorites. 8. Land of Make Believe (Chuck Mangione) 9. Georgia (Ray Charles) 10. Cantaloupe Island (Herbie Hancock) 11. Night in Tunisia (Dizzy Gillespie) 12. Fragile (Sting) 13. Mercy Mercy Mercy (William, Watson & Zawinul) 14. Take V in IV (Paul Desmond)
